Leaves

I continue to find raw material on walks – trampled leaves and leaf litter – the remnants of Autumn eroded by winter winds and rain. Beautiful structures that speak of passing time and cycles of renewal.

Lichens and other organic forms

Lichens are endlessly fascinating. To the naked eye, one gets a sense of their growth patterns and the play of light on their crumpled surfaces, but with a hand lens their complex and beautiful structures come alive.

Rock forms

Rocks reveal the skeletal structures of the earth and these are particularly evident in the sea cliffs around the Devon and Cornish coasts. We came across a wonderful variety of forms on the beach at Compass Cove – stretched and compacted by geological forces – sometimes like teeth or backbones.
